How to add text to a PDF
- Open the PDF. Drop the document you want to write on and pick the page.
- Draw a box. Drag a box (or click) where the text should go — near existing text, its font, size, and color are detected automatically.
- Type and format. Enter your text, then select words and apply bold, italic, underline, or a color; set family, size, alignment, and width for the box.
- Download. Save the updated PDF; the formatted runs are embedded with standard fonts.
Sometimes you need to write on a PDF — fill a blank on a form, add a clause to a contract, label a diagram, or drop a formatted note in the margin. This tool lets you draw a box, type, and format the text exactly how you want, without converting the file or paying for a desktop editor.
Unlike a plain-text stamp, formatting is per-selection: bold a heading, italicize a term, underline a total, or color a warning — all inside the same box — and text wraps to the box width with your chosen alignment. Font matching makes additions look intentional: a box placed beside existing text inherits that text's family, size, and color, so a filled-in field reads like part of the original. The styled runs are embedded with standard PDF fonts via pdf-lib, leaving the rest of the document untouched.

Can I make some words bold or a different color?
Yes. Select any part of the text in a box and apply bold, italic, underline, or a color to just that selection — you can mix several styles within one box, which is what sets this apart from plain-text stamping.
How does font detection work?
When you place a box near existing text, the tool inspects that run and matches the closest standard family (sans, serif, or monospace), its point size, and its ink color, so the box starts out looking native to the document.
Does the text wrap and align?
Yes. Each box has a width, so text wraps within it, and you can set left, center, or right alignment plus line spacing — useful for paragraphs, not just single labels.
Which fonts can it use?
It embeds the PDF standard families — Helvetica, Times, and Courier, in regular, bold, italic, and bold-italic — which covers most documents without shipping extra font files.
Is my PDF uploaded to add text?
No. The page is rendered and the formatted text embedded with pdf-lib in your browser, so the document never leaves your device.
