# Password & passphrase generator — no upload

> Generate strong random passwords and memorable passphrases with Web Crypto, in your browser. Nothing is uploaded — passwords are made on your device.

Generate strong random passwords or memorable word-based passphrases using the browser's secure random source (Web Crypto). Nothing is transmitted — each password is created on your device.

A strong, unique password for every account is the baseline of security, and generating one locally means it isn't exposed before you even save it. Passphrases trade compactness for memorability; random strings maximize entropy per character.

The Passwords Desk has a full manager for storing them, and the security tools can check strength or hash a value.

## How to

1. **Choose a type.** Pick a random-character password or a passphrase.
2. **Set options.** Adjust length, character sets, or word count.
3. **Copy.** Copy the generated secret.

## FAQ

### Are these passwords truly random?

Yes. They're drawn from the Web Crypto secure random generator, not a predictable pseudo-random source, so they're suitable for real credentials.

### Passphrase or random password?

Passphrases (several random words) are easier to remember and type; random-character strings are more compact. Both can be very strong at sufficient length.

### Is the password sent anywhere?

No. It's generated in the browser and never leaves the tab, so it isn't logged by any server.
